  N Thangaraja outplays rivals with last round 66, ends long wait for title at Vizag Open 2023

  Sri Lankan N Thangaraja had a dream final round of six-under 66, the day’s best score, to outplay all his rivals at the Rs. 1 crore worth inaugural Vizag Open and end an agonizing five-year long wait for his fourth TATA Steel PGTI title.

  Colombo-based Thangaraja (71-73-70-66), who was overnight tied ninth and trailing the lead by a massive seven shots, literally pulled a rabbit out of the hat on Saturday by overcoming that huge deficit with a sensational and error-free last round to triumph by one stroke at a total of eight-under 280 at the pristine East Point Golf Club (EPGC) in Visakhapatnam.

  Sunhit Bishnoi shoots 69 to move into third round lead

  Gurugram’s Sunhit Bishnoi shot a three-under 69 in round three to move into the lead at nine-under 207 at the Rs. 1 crore Vizag Open 2023 being played at the East Point Golf Club (EPGC) in Visakhapatnam.

  The 22-year-old Sunhit’s (69-69-69) third straight 69 meant he was well-placed to take a shot at his second title as he enjoyed a slender one-shot advantage over second-placed Akshay Sharma (67-68-73) of Chandigarh.

  Shivendra Singh Sisodia (69-69-72), another Gurugram-based golfer, was in third place at six-under 210.

  Akshay Sharma shines in round two, takes three-shot lead

  Chandigarh’s Akshay Sharma came up with the performance of the day, a four-under 68, in windy conditions during round two of the Vizag Open 2023 to take a three-shot lead at nine-under 135 at the East Point Golf Club (EPGC) in Visakhapatnam.

  Gurugram-based players Sunhit Bishnoi and Shivendra Singh Sisodia as well as Bengaluru’s Trishul Chinnappa, carded scores of 69 to occupy tied second place at six-under 138.

  The cut was declared at two-over 146. Fifty-three professionals made the cut.

  Mohammad Sanju establishes the early lead at Vizag Open 2023

  The overnight rain could not play dampener to the opening round of the Vizag Open 2023 as PGTI’s first ever event at the magnificent East Point Golf Club (EPGC) in Visakhapatnam had a delayed start on Wednesday but the exciting golf on display set the tone for the rest of the week.

  Kolkata’s Mohammad Sanju established the early lead with an exhilarating six-under 66 at the Rs. 1 crore event. Sanju was the clubhouse leader as the first round was yet to be completed with play being called off at 6 pm local time due to fading light.
