    Shubhankar Sharma and Veer Ahlawat finish as best Indians in tied 13th as Germany’s Marcel Siem clinches Hero Indian Open 2023 title

    Indian duo of Honey Baisoya and Angad Cheema finish tied 20th

    Shubhankar Sharma and Veer Ahlawat secured tied 13th place at totals of four-under 284 to finish as the best Indians at the US$2 million Hero Indian Open 2023 played at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

    Germany’s Marcel Siem (69-70-67-68) won the tournament with a total of 14-under 274. Siem’s compatriot Yannik Paul (65-69-71-70), the leader for the first three days, finished one shot behind at 13-under 275 to take the runner-up spot.

    Veer Ahlawat posts 68 to emerge as best Indian in tied fourth; Trails leader Yannik Paul of Germany by six shots

    Indian duo of Angad Cheema and Honey Baisoya also in top-10

    Veer Ahlawat posted a four-under 68 at his home course, the DLF Golf and Country Club, to emerge as the highest-placed Indian in tied fourth at five-under 211 in the penultimate round of the US$2 million Hero Indian Open 2023.

    The six-foot-five-inch tall Veer (73-70-68), a two-time winner on the PGTI, jumped 15 spots from his overnight tied 19th as his third round featured five birdies and a bogey. The 26-year-old Ahlawat trails the leader Yannik Paul (65-69-71) of Germany by six shots.

    Angad Cheema, carrying forward his consistent run from the last PGTI season, hung in there with a second round of one-under 71 to be the best-placed Indian in tied second at the US$2 million Hero Indian Open 2023.

    Leading the Indian charge on Friday, Cheema (68-71) totaled five-under 139 to climb two spots from his overnight tied fourth and trail the leader Yannik Paul (65-69) of Germany by five shots at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

    Angad shared the second spot with Finland’s Mikko Korhonen (72), Iceland’s Gudmundur Kristjansson (71) and Germany’s Marcel Siem (70).

    India’s Honey Baisoya, playing at his home course, made his presence felt with a six-under 66 on day one of the US$2 million Hero Indian Open 2023. Honey was placed second, one behind the clubhouse leader Yannik Paul (65) of Germany who closed the round in style with birdies on his last four holes at the DLF Golf and Country Club.  

    Round one could not be completed on Thursday as fading light forced the final two groups off the course.
