Lahiri's second round 73 places him joint fourth in Macau

Anirban Lahiri followed up his phenomenal 10-under-61 in the opening round of the Venetian Macau Open with a sedate two-over-73 in round two to drop from first position to joint fourth. Lahiri’s two-day total stood at eight-under-134 and he trailed the joint leaders, Australians Scott Hend and Adam Groom, by two shots.

Lahiri, second on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, was disappointed to take 12 shots more than Thursday’s superlative effort of 61 as he posted three birdies against five bogeys. “It was windy but still it was not that hard,” lamented the Indian star.

“The greens were quicker and I couldn’t get my speed right with the putts. I couldn’t adjust to them. I’m playing well but I need to tighten up some loose ends. I’m still in with a great chance.”

SSP Chowrasia also slipped from overnight tied sixth to tied 14th as he followed up his first round of 66 with a 73 on day two. His halfway total read three-under-139.

Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur ended the day in tied 25th at two-under-140.

The Indians who missed the cut of even-par-142 were M Dharma (143), Himmat Rai (144), Rahil Gangjee (144), Chiragh Kumar (144), Angad Cheema (147), Arjun Atwal (148), Sujjan Singh (150) and Chikkarangappa (150). Rashid Khan withdrew from the event.
