Gaurav Pratap Singh edges out Mohd Yamin in playoff to win in Faridabad

Noida’s Gaurav Pratap Singh registered his third professional win with an incredible playoff victory over Faridabad’s Mohd Yamin at the PGTI Feeder Tour event at the Aravalli Golf Club in Faridabad on Friday. Gaurav Pratap (74-67-74) and Yamin (75-72-68) headed for a playoff after both of them ended the regulation 54 holes with matching totals of one-under-215. Gaurav finally edged out Yamin on the fifth playoff hole to land his second title on the Feeder Tour.

The 29-year-old Gaurav Pratap Singh, who was the overnight leader by two shots, had an ordinary round of two-over-74 as a result of his four birdies and six bogeys. The 45-year-old seasoned pro Yamin, on the other hand, came up with a brilliant four-under-68 in the final round thanks to five birdies and a bogey.

The two golfers were then involved in a battle of attrition as both made pars on the first four playoff holes. The fifth playoff hole turned out to be decisive as Gaurav kept his nerve to make par while Yamin made double-bogey after missing the green.

Gaurav said, “My chipping and putting wasn’t up to the mark today but I made up for that with a solid performance in the playoff. I made an excellent recovery for par after hitting it over the green on the first playoff hole. That was a key moment as I could have lost the match there. It feels great to win an event after a three-year gap. This will do my confidence a world of good ahead of the crucial second half of the PGTI season.”

Chandigarh’s Akshay Sharma and Rajesh Kumar Rawat of Lucknow ended joint third at one-over-217. Faridabad golfer Ramesh Kumar and Delhi’s Dinesh Kumar were a further shot behind in tied fifth.

Akshay Sharma continues to be the leader by a huge margin in the Feeder Tour Order of Merit with three events remaining in the season. Akshay currently has earnings of Rs. 1,77,870. Rajesh Kumar Rawat is placed second with earnings of Rs. 86,835.
