Anirban Lahiri breaks into the top-100 of the world rankings
Achieves career-best ranking of 99
Anirban Lahiri broke into the top-100 of the world in the latest official world golf rankings released on Tuesday. He has now achieved his career-best ranking of 99.
The 26-year-old Lahiri, a three-time winner on the Asian Tour, recently had a fantastic run of four wins from four starts on the PGTI. Anirban, currently the highest-ranked Indian in the world, finished third on the Asian Tour Order of Merit in 2013. He will be representing Team Asia at the inaugural EurAsia Cup in Malaysia next week.
The Bangalore-based professional had missed out on qualifying for the British Open after withdrawing from the Open Qualifying Series in Thailand last week. However, he still has a chance of qualifying for the Open if he performs well at the European Tour co-sanctioned events over the next two months.
"This is a major milestone for me. It is something one works towards. The next target is to break into the top-50 of the world," said Lahiri.
He added, "I've taken a break this week to prepare for next week's EurAsia Cup. I'm looking to work on all aspects of my game including my physical fitness during this short break."
Anirban has now become the fourth Indian to break into the top-100 after Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa and Gaganjeet Bhullar.
The next best ranked Indian in the world at the moment is Shiv Kapur at 143.
Lahiri has a total of 14 titles to his credit so far which include three on the Asian Tour and 11 on the PGTI.
