Ajay Baisoya builds three-shot lead after a second straight 67
Delhi-based professional Ajay Baisoya fired a second straight five-under 67 to build a three-shot lead at a total score of 10-under 134 after round two of the PGTI NEXGEN Kapurthala 2025 being played at the RCF Golf Course in Kapurthala.
Ajay Baisoya (67-67), who was overnight second and one off the lead, sank an eagle and five birdies at the cost of two bogeys during his round of 67 on Wednesday.
Rohit Narwal (70-67) of Karnal and Chandigarh’s Amrit Lal (69-68) were placed tied second at seven-under 137.
First-round leader Wasim Khan of Delhi carded a 72 to drop down to tied fourth at six-under 138 along with Panchkula’s Brijesh Kumar (70).
Local favourite Ashbeer Saini of Kapurthala returned a 71 on day two to be placed tied sixth at four-under 140 along with Lucknow’s Sanjeev Kumar.
The cut was declared at four-over 148. Thirty-seven professionals made the cut for the third and final round.
Thirty-four-year-old Ajay Baisoya had a forgettable start to the day when he bogeyed two of the first four holes. Ajay then rallied with three straight birdies from the fifth to the seventh where he played a brilliant chip and also made a 15-feet conversion.
Ajay’s eagle on the Par-5 14th hole came as a result of an extraordinary second shot from 244 yards that landed four feet from the flag. Baisoya continued his excellent hitting on the Par-4 16th where he drove the green and just missed out on an eagle from 10 feet but picked up a birdie. He closed the day with another birdie on the 18th.
Ajay said, “My hitting including my tee shots and approach shots have been the best part of my game so far this week.
“I’ve also benefitted a lot by working on the mental aspect of my game. After struggling for some time, I’m now finding it easier while making the transition between coaching and playing professional events. I’ve been able to strike a good balance between these two important aspects of my life.
“I would like to thank Mr. P V Rao and Mr. Ashish Mohanty for supporting me.”
