Bhullar’s blistering 66 propels him to joint second in round three of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship
Gaganjeet Bhullar (72-68-66) came up with a brilliant bogey-free six-under-66 that propelled him to joint second place in round three of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, a European Tour event. Bhullar, with a three-day total of 10-under-206, now shares second place with World No. 5 Phil Mickelson of the USA. Bhullar and Mickelson trail the leader Craig Lee of Scotland by two strokes.
Gaganjeet’s six-birdie run on Saturday pushed him up 11 positions from his overnight tied 13th place. The five-time winner on the Asian Tour is currently one shot ahead of World No. 7 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal, both of whom are placed tied fourth.
Bhullar, playing his first season as a full-card holder on the European Tour, said, “Ever since I've arrived here, I've been striking the ball really good. I knew that I could go low, and thankfully today was one of my lucky days. I had a lot of good breaks, putted really well and gave myself a lot of opportunities of making birdies and I guess at the end of the day I'm quite happy with 66.”
On the possibility of a pairing with some of the best players in the world, the 25-year-old added, “It's a great feeling. Last year (at CIMB Classic and WGC) I got paired up with a lot of the big names in the world and it was quite good. You get to learn a lot of new stuff about yourself, about the game, and I think it will be one of those enjoyable Sundays.”
Jeev Milkha Singh and Shiv Kapur are placed tied 67th at two-over-218.
