Bangladesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah bags career-best tied fourth at his home course, Indian duo of Honey Baisoya and M Dharma finish inside top-10

Bangladesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah, playing at his home course, the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka, secured his best ever result on the Asian Tour with a tied fourth finish at the AB Bank Bangladesh Open. Zamal returned a final round of two-under-69 to end up with a total of nine-under-275 and thus finish as the best Bangladeshi.
PGTI member Zamal’s (69-65-72-69) previous best result in Asia, a tied seventh, had also been achieved at his National Open back in 2016.
Sweden’s Malcolm Kokocinski claimed victory at the US$300,000 event after closing with a six-under-65 to win by three shots at 14-under-270.
Englishman Jack Harrison and New Zealander Ben Campbell took a share of second place at 11-under-273.
Honey Baisoya (71-67-69-69), who shot a final round of two-under-69, had the best finish among the Indians as he ended the week in tied sixth at eight-under-276. It was Baisoya’s second-best result on the Asian Tour as he had earlier registered a fifth place at the Panasonic Open India in 2016.
M Dharma (66-71-68-72) recorded a career-best tied ninth finish on the Asian Tour, which was also his first ever top-10 in Asia, following his last round of one-over-72. He totalled seven-under-277 for the week.
Sri Lankan Mithun Perera, who was overnight second and just one off the lead, slipped to tied 11th in round four after posting a score of 76. His total thus moved to five-under-279.
After his memorable performance, Zamal said, “I didn’t putt well today. It was disappointing. I could’ve finish way better if I had sunk a few more putts. I hit my tee shots and my second shots very good today but I wasn’t able to make putts, which was really a pity.
“I was just aiming to play my best today. I was hitting it good. I couldn’t have easily post a six or seven-under-par round today if my putts had dropped. I will be happier if I can win the tournament but to finish tied-fourth for my best result in the Bangladesh Open, I’ll take it.
“I had high expectations for myself this week because I was playing on my home course. This is where I practise and hone my game. I would like to thank AB Bank for their support and also my home course Kurmitola Golf Club for their commitment to the Bangladesh Open.”
