Karandeep Kochhar advances to Final Stage of Asian Tour Q School
India’s Karandeep Kochhar was among the 111 players who successfully advanced to the Final Stage of the 2018 Asian Tour Qualifying School following the completion of the fourth and final round of the First Stage held over four different courses in Thailand on Saturday.
Eighteen-year-old Kochhar finished tied 21st at two-over-286 in a field of 118 players at the St. Andrews 2000 course. A total of 36 players survived the test at the St. Andrews 2000 after the cut was set at four-over-288.
There were a total of nine Indians who appeared at the First Stage, but Karandeep, who shot scores of 67, 70, 72 and 77, was the only Indian to cross the first hurdle and make it to the Final Stage.
The 111 players who qualified from the First Stage will now join 131 other players, who have already been exempted, at the Final Stage of the Qualifying School which will be played over 90 holes (five rounds) at the Rayong Green Valley Country Club and the St. Andrews 2000 in Rayong from January 10 to 14.
The final stage of the all-important Qualifying School will see a total of 242 players play two rounds before the field is cut to the leading 140 players and ties, who will then play another two rounds across the two courses.
After 72 holes, the field will be cut to the leading 70 players and ties who will then proceed to the fifth and final round held at the Rayong Green Valley Country Club. At the conclusion of 90 holes, the top 35 players and ties will be ranked accordingly for the 2018 season.
