Bhullar lies tied sixth on day two of Singapore Open
India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar followed up his first round of three-under-68 with a two-under-69 in round two of the SMBC Singapore Open to be placed tied sixth at five-under-137. He trailed the leader Seungsu Han of the United States by four shots.
The US$ 1 million event jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour, suffered a two and a half hour rain delay on day one (Thursday) which in turn resulted in the second round not being completed on Friday. When play was suspended due to fading light on Friday evening, 26 players out of a total of 156 were yet to complete their second round.ÂÂ
Gaganjeet sank three birdies against a lone bogey on day two.
Bhullar, who ended a three-year title drought with victories in Korea and Indonesia last year, said, “I hit the ball really well. I think I played better than I did yesterday. I gave myself a lot of opportunities and I didn’t make too many mistakes. Overall, it was a good and smooth round. I hit a lot of greens in regulation.

“The golf course demands good tee shots and good iron-play and a lot of good putts. I think patience is going to play a very important role this week. Apart from that, I am very much looking forward to playing in the weekend rounds.
“I have played well here at the Serapong course before, especially in 2009 when I qualified for The Open championship. That’s always at the back of my mind.â€Â
Importantly, four players who finish inside the top-12 and ties at this event, who are not already exempt, will qualify for this year’s British Open scheduled to be played at Royal Birkdale from July 16 to 23.
India’s Shubhankar Sharma, who began with a 69 on day one, was one of the players who couldn’t complete his second round on Friday. He was two-under through 13 holes in round two. His four-under total placed him tied 17th.
Shiv Kapur, who fired a 71 in round one, was one-over through 17 holes when play was suspended on Friday. He is currently just one shot above the projected cut as his total reads one-over. He has a good chance of being the third Indian to make the cut on Saturday morning after the completion of round two.
