Amateur Arjun Prasad and pros Khalin Joshi, Abhijit Singh Chadha, M Dharma, Manu Gandas begin well at Asian Tour Q School

Seventeen-year-old amateur Arjun Prasad fired a brilliant six-under-66 in round one of the Asian Tour Qualifying School’s Final Stage to be the highest-placed Indian in tied 11th. He trailed the joint leaders American William Cannon and Australian Todd Sinnot by two shots.

Arjun Prasad, said, “It’s a good morale booster for me. I played some solid golf today and didn’t make too many mistakes. I followed my game plan closely. 

“This is my second week in Thailand and it’s getting pretty tiring already. My high school exams are next week and I’m making a big sacrifice by being here. 

“I’ve been playing golf for the last eight years and I won the Faldo Series Asia Grand Finals in China last year. My golf career has been good so far. I plan to turn professional if I can earn my Asian Tour card this week. 

“I always look up to Jeev Milkha Singh Sir as my inspiration from the very start. He has been a great role model and I hope to emulate his success one day.”

Indians Khalin Joshi, Abhijit Singh Chadha, M Dharma and Manu Gandas also made impressive starts with identical opening round scores of 67. They were all in tied 19th place.

Ajeetesh Sandhu, Sujjan Singh and Honey Baisoya were a further shot back in tied 48th.

Ashok Kumar’s 69 placed him tied 70th while Aman Raj shot a 70 to be tied 91st.

Veer Ahlawat, Gaurav Pratap Singh and Udayan Mane submitted cards of 71 to be tied 122nd.

C Muniyappa was tied 152nd with a score of 72 while Deepinder Singh Kullar occupied tied 209th place after signing a 75.

The top 80 players and ties will make the cut after two rounds and the top 35 players and ties will earn their Tour cards after four rounds.
