Shubhankar Sharma fires superb 66 to be tied fourth in Bangladesh

Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rahul Bajaj in tied seventh

Shubhankar Sharma kickstarted his rookie season on the Asian Tour with a terrific round of five-under-66 on day one of the Bashundhara Bangladesh Open. Shubhankar ended round one as the highest placed Indian in tied fourth. He was two shots behind the joint leaders Shunya Takeyasu of Japan and Korean Soomin Lee.

Shubhankar, playing his first event of the Asian Tour season after earning his card at the Qualifying School last month, came up with an eagle, four birdies and a bogey during his opening round effort. The highlight of his round was the terrific eagle-two on the par-4 fifth.

PGTI member Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka also grabbed a share of fourth position courtesy his score of 66.

Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rahul Bajaj shot identical scores of four-under-67 to be tied seventh. While Bhullar posted a bogey-free round, Bajaj mixed five birdies with a bogey.

Chikkarangappa was tied 14th at 68 along with PGTI members and local favourites Md Siddikur Rahman and Md Zamal Hossain Mollah of Bangladesh.

Rahil Gangjee (69) was tied 23rd while Shankar Das (70) and Khalin Joshi (70) were both in tied 38th.

Sujjan Singh, Ashok Kumar and Abhinav Lohan carded identical scores of 71 to be tied 57th.

Abhijit Singh Chadha and Honey Baisoya returned scores of 72 to occupy tied 76th place, while Amardip Sinh Malik shot a 74 to be tied 97th.

Udayan Mane’s 75 placed him tied 104th.
