Anirban Lahiri shoots an 80 in the opening round at WGC-Cadillac Championship, placed tied 71st

Anirban Lahiri had a slow start at the WGC-Cadillac Championship as he shot an eight-over-80 in the opening round to be placed tied 71st.

Lahiri began the day well with a birdie on the par-5 12th but then slipped with bogeys on the 14th and 17th as he struggled with his approach shots.

Just when he seemed to be getting back into rhythm with a birdie on the first, a bogey and double-bogey followed on the next two holes. He found the water with his tee shot on the third and had to take a penalty drop.

The two-time European Tour winner dropped five shots on the last four holes including a double-bogey on the closing ninth to end up with an 80. American J B Holmes was the leader at 10-under-62.
