Anirban Lahiri claims tied 11th at Bermuda Championship, Shubhankar Sharma secures tied 14th at Cyprus Open

It turned out to be a good week for Indians as both Anirban Lahiri and Shubhankar Sharma clinched top-20 finishes on the PGA Tour and European Tour respectively.

Anirban Lahiri (68-70-69-67) claimed tied 11th place at the PGA Tour's Bermuda Championship on Sunday, five shots behind winner Brian Gay of the United States. Gay won in a playoff against compatriot Wyndham Clark.

Lahiri's last round of four-under-67 punctuated by six birdies and two bogeys at the Port Royal Golf Course saw him end up with a total of 10-under-274. He thus moved up from tied 51st to 31st position in the latest FedExCup rankings.

Anirban ranked tied first for most birdies made during the tournament. The Florida-based Indian's good result meant he continued his decent form in the 2020-21 PGA Tour season where he has already registered two top-40s and a tied sixth finish previously.

“Happy with the consistency this week. I made too many small errors on and around the greens that added up to hurt me enough. Disappointed not to finish in the top-10,” said the Indian star, who is featuring in his sixth straight PGA Tour Season.

“I feel like the game is getting more rounded with every passing week. The biggest challenge and disappointment is not being able to play events and as of now, I’m not in to any of the remaining events on the Schedule (for this year). I may try to Monday qualify for Sea Island (the RSM Classic in three weeks’ time),” added Lahiri, who also moved up from 566 to 486 in the world ranking.

Elsewhere at the European Tour's Cyprus Open, Shubhankar Sharma (67-66-69-69) secured tied 14th place with a total of 13-under-271 after shooting a two-under-69 in the final round.

Shubhankar's fourth round effort featured five birdies and three bogeys including three consecutive birdies from the fifth to the seventh.

Sharma's top-20 propelled him from 373 to 348 in the world ranking and from 151 to 136 in the Race to Dubai standings.
