About the PGTI
The Indian professionals have created an entity, ‘Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI)’ whose key objective is to nurture and maintain high standards of professionalism in the region by supporting the national and the international tours. This would be achieved by conducting prize money tournaments through sponsorships.
The PGTI is a ‘body by the players for the players’. It has given professionals a platform to be involved in the decision making for all aspects of the game. This would lead to commercial viability, brand building and international and domestic representation.
The PGTI is headed by a President, Mr. Gautam Thapar, and a Governing Board comprising of Mr. Jyoti Randhawa, Mr. Shiv Kapur, Mr. SSP Chowrasia, Mr. Ajai Gupta, Mr. Digvijay Singh, Mr. Uttam Singh Mundy, Mr. Amritinder Singh, Mr. Ranjit Singh and Mr. Saket Bahuguna.
Objectives of the PGTI
- To foster and maintain a high standard of professional golf in India.
- To promote and arrange for the conduct of professional golf in India and its neighbouring countries.
- To select professional golfers to represent India in international tournaments.
- To maintain liaison with similar bodies in foreign countries in interest of professional golf.
- To prescribe and interpret rules relating to the conduct of professional golf and professional golf tournaments.
- To frame code of conduct and ethics for professional golfers.
- To assist in the layout and upkeep of golf courses.
- To promote the manufacture of golf equipment and to assist in the related research and development.
- To institute and operate welfare funds.
- To establish and run, or assist in the running of, schools, colleges and other institutions for the training of professional golfers.
