    Ajeetesh Sandhu hits the front in opening round of GS Caltex Maekyung Open

    India’s Ajeetesh Sandhu emerged as the first round leader after he returned a four-under-67 to take a one-shot lead at the 37th GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship in Korea on Thursday.

    Sandhu continued to showcase the strength of Indian golf with a performance that threatens to break the Korean stronghold at the event which has not been won by a foreign player since Mark Calcavecchia of the United States lifted the prestigious trophy in 2004.

    The Korean trio of Heungchol Joo, Lee Dong Ha and Jae Bum Park stayed close to Sandhu when they signed for matching 68s at the Namseoul Country Club which is welcoming back players from the Asian Tour for the first time since 2009

    Shubhankar Sharma secured tied 14th place at the Volvo China Open after he signed off with a final round of five-under-67.

    Shubhankar’s (69-72-68-67) final round effort lifted him 11 places from his overnight tied 25th position and took his total to 12-under-276 at the event co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.

    Young Kazuki Higa of Japan captures bti Open title with three-shot victory

    Twenty-three-year-old Kazuki Higa of Japan captured his maiden professional title with a wire-to-wire victory at the US$ 60,000 bti Open in Dhaka on Friday.

    Higa, playing in only his second season as a professional, was crowned champion at the Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC) after he completed his total domination of the week with a final round score of two-under-70 that gave him a three-shot victory at 17-under-271.

    Bangladesh’s Md Zamal Hossain Mollah (70), playing at his home course, also returned a 70 to finish runner-up at 14-under-274 at the event tri-sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour (ADT), Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and Bangladesh Professional Golfers Association (BPGA)
